What makes the Honda cars available here at Honda Van Nuys stand out? Is it the impressive engine options, the advanced safety features that protect your family on every ride, or the attention to detail and sleek styling that make each new drive smooth and luxurious? It’s all that and more, which is why it’s no surprise the brand is celebrating the impressive milestone of 30 million cars made in America.

Early History of Honda in America

Did you know that Honda was the first Japanese automaker to produce vehicles in the United States? Honda first imported the Honda N600 to the United States in 1969.

By 1982, the first Honda factory—and the first Japanese car factory—opened for car production in the United States, specifically in the town of Marysville, Ohio. While Honda had been producing there since 1979, it was known for motorcycles, not cars, until 1982.

In the first year of production, this factory was responsible for just 968 cars, specifically the Honda Accord. But it geared up very quickly, producing over 55,000 vehicles the following year. Today, the Honda Accord is still produced at that factory, along with other models like the Acura TLX and the Acura Integra.

Modern History of Honda in America

Today, Honda is celebrating two significant milestones. The company has been producing cars in the United States for over 40 years and has officially reached the production of over 30 million models. An average of 750,000 models have been produced by Honda manufacturers each year for the last 40 years.

Today, most Honda vehicles are still built in Ohio, but factories for cars and components can also be found in Alabama, Georgia, and Indiana.
