The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has updated its crash testing criteria to enhance vehicle safety, particularly for rear-seat passengers and pedestrians. In the revised moderate overlap front crash test, a new metric called the "chest index" is employed, which assesses both the position of the shoulder belt on the rear dummy’s chest and chest compression. Additionally, the IIHS has combined its daytime and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention tests into a single evaluation, making nighttime performance essential for vehicles to earn either the Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ awards .
2025 Honda Models That Earned IIHS Awards
The IIHS introduced tougher crash tests this year, including a side-impact test with 82% more crash energy. Despite the challenge, several 2025 Honda models received top recognition. The Honda Civic Hatchback, Honda Accord, and Honda HR-V earned the coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating.
