One of the most practical features in the new Honda Pilot is something a lot of owners don't fully explore: the drive mode system. With up to seven modes available depending on trim and drivetrain, the Honda Pilot lets you change the vehicle’s dynamics with a simple toggle on the center console. Here's what each one does and when to use it.

The Everyday Modes

Normal mode is where most driving happens. It balances throttle response, fuel efficiency, and comfort for daily use. When you want to stretch your fuel economy a little further, ECON mode softens the throttle and optimizes the transmission for efficiency, which is great for highway cruising or stop-and-go commutes around Van Nuys. Sport mode does the opposite, sharpening throttle response and holding lower gears longer for more responsive acceleration when you want it.

When Conditions Change

Snow mode adjusts the throttle, transmission, and AWD system to help maintain traction on slippery surfaces. Tow mode optimizes shift points and power delivery when you're pulling a trailer, helping the Honda Pilot manage loads up to 5,000 pounds with the i-VTM4® AWD system.

For the Adventurous

When you equip the Honda Pilot EX-L trim and above with all-wheel drive, you unlock two additional modes. Trail mode calibrates throttle and shift mapping for low-speed off-road driving, and select trims also activate a TrailWatch™ camera system for a clearer view of the terrain around your tires. Sand mode fine-tunes everything for loose surfaces like dunes and beach driving, optimizing traction where you need it most.
