Vehicle Comparison 

Hybrid: A hybrid car has an internal combustion engine (ICE) that's supplemented by an electric motor and a small battery. The motor activates at certain speeds to boost fuel efficiency, but the ICE does most of the work. The battery recharges through a combination of regenerative braking and engine power. 

PHEV: A PHEV, or "plug-in hybrid electric vehicle," still features an ICE, but its battery is larger than that of a hybrid car. Plugging in to charge allows a PHEV to drive on all-electric power for a certain number of miles before the gasoline engine kicks in.

EV: An EV ("electric vehicle") is powered solely by a battery and electric motor. It does not have an internal combustion engine, which means zero tailpipe emissions, no oil changes, and maximum efficiency.

Charging Levels and Types 

As mentioned above, the PHEVs and EVs at our Honda dealership in Van Nuys, CA, require regular charging via one of three levels: 

• Level 1 - uses a standard 120-volt outlet and takes 12 to 24 hours to fully charge a battery. 
• Level 2 - uses a 240-volt outlet that decreases charging time to four to eight hours. 
• Level 3 DC fast charging - the fastest, most powerful form of charging. It can fully charge an EV battery in 30 to 60 minutes but is too much output for most PHEVs.

HondaLink®, the dynamic app that's available for every new Honda car, gains additional features when used with the Honda Prologue. It integrates with the EV's Google built-in infotainment system, allowing drivers to easily locate the nearest public charging station. Once you arrive at the station, you can access your public charging credits right from your phone and use them onsite. The app can also show you the vehicle's charging status and offers customizable charging settings.
